Peace

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Only Jesus can give us peace, not the world.

And Jesus states here, he is giving us peace, but not only peace but the kind that comes from Him. When Jesus gives us peace it is the real thing, we can rely on it, count on it. Jesus gave us peace. Or gave the disciples peace. (he was speaking to 12 men).

You can get some peace in the world, for brief moments. Like an escape from your troubles. A time of calm and comfort, when your problems seem so very far away. But Jesus gives us His peace. That is the kind that can allow you to feel at peace in the middle of your troubles, when things aren't calm, when you aren't comfortable, you still have the peace that Jesus gave you. The kind of peace you can get from the world is interrupted by problems, anxiety, noise and disasters. The peace that Jesus gives us over-rules all those things. The peace from Jesus is the real thing.

Jesus does not give as the world gives. What does that mean? He won't give the gifts men give us, He gives us something different. That may mean He won't give us the things we think we want, the things the world tells us we want, but He will give us what we really need. We really need peace.

And Jesus does not give as the world gives in that usually when the world gives us something it is because it wants something in return. Quite often people will give gifts because you love them, or because they want you to love them, or out of guilt, or as a way to manipulate you. Jesus gives because He loves you. Just like your mom or dad gave you gifts, just because they love you.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Jesus not only gives us peace but tells us to not let our hearts be troubled nor be afraid. So He gives us peace AND tells us not to be unpeaceful. He gives us a gift and then commands us to not do the opposite of that gift.

We are to live in the gift of peace He has given us.

To be troubled or afraid is to both ignore the gift Jesus gave us, and to also ignore what He told us to do.

To be troubled or afraid is to both ignore the gift Jesus gave us, " Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you." and that peace is a permanent, total, unconditional gift of peace because He says, " Not as the world gives do I give to you." and if we are troubled and afraid we are also ignoring what Jesus told us to do: "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Let's read that verse one more time: John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

So don't let the enemy or anyone trick you, Jesus has already given you peace. You have it, it is complete and unconditional.
